FASHION WEEK/ Update #3
NEWS/ Australian Fashion Week
Some interesting and controversial events have arisen out of the
latest Australian fashion week that have affected both designers
and models. Usually fashion week runs smoothly without a single
hitch, here is a nice little summary of the events for you.
1. Model Stephanie Carta was pulled from the catwalk at the last
moment after organisers deemed the model too thin. Carta's agency
became concerned after she returned from a stay over in Paris and
came back thin and frail. The model claimed that she promises that
she will eat and look after her health. Less then 24 hours after making
that promise, she was put back on the catwalk. Let's hope that the
model keeps her promise.
2. Designer Kate Sylvester sent her models down the catwalk bearing
war medals. This comes days after Australian war rememberence day,
Anzac Day. The medals are those which people in the army received
after fighting for their country and their lives, not for models to wear
as a fashion accessory. This has upset a number of people, but the
designer says she did not intend to disrespect servicemen and is sorry.

STYLE/ My Favourite Things
This week a lot of my favourite things focus on Australian and
New Zealand (our neighbor) designers and style. From dresses
to cute little random pieces that really stand out, I hope that
you find something that you will love as much as I do.
And here is the rest of it.
These dresses are by an Australian designer called Fleur Wood.
She uses the most amazing, feminine and comfortable fabrics.
I love these dresses because they are great for day or night,
summer or winter or whether you are tall or short. These
dresses are very versatile, and although they look delicate,
they are very durable and last for a long time.

I love Karen Walker's designs, she is so talented and has
designed eye wear, clothing and of course her beautiful
jewelry. The designs range from simple silver leaves on a
long chain to sparkly blue owl rings. The jewelry often
represents animals or nature, which is original and endearing.

Kym Ellery is the Australian designer of fashion label Ellery.
Ellery is made up of beautiful pieces that are iconic of the
1970s glamor mixed with a bit of rock'n'roll. The Ellery bell
sleeved dress is no exception, it is bright purple, so is only
for those who don't mind standing out from the crowd.
Although it has a short hem, it doesnt have a tight waist so
is great for all sized ladies, and the long sleeves compensate
for not showing too much skin.

Label Chronicles of Never have come up with really modern
and originally designed rings. They are thick and chunky and
made from darkened brass. I think I am really drawn to these
obscure rings because they remind me of the film 'The
Labyrinth' with David Bowie. The designer is actually an old
Ksubi/ Tsubi member named Gareth Moody. I'm sure you will
see lots more of this label in time to come.

I know it can sound a bit nerdy, and maybe its because I can
be such a homebody at times, but I LOVE to cook at home.
Things always taste better, it is more rewarding and you are
teaching your mind when you cook at home, not to mention
that you save a heck load of money. When you cook at home, you
can add or leave out ingredients that you don't like (i REALLY
don't like cucumber, and my partner really hates nuts). You can
be a lot more healthy when you cook yourself, a lot of takeaway
places use lots of butter and salt, you can replace this just
as well with a healthier choice like olive oil. There are some
great websites online that have yummy delicious recipes.

Chip Chop started off making cute little tote bags, now we are
lucky enough that they have branched into t shirts and more
bags! I have to say my new favourite item is the denim vest, I
think this is one of the coolest pieces of design I have seen in
a long time. Following on with their simple designs and 1970s
hippie feel, this vest does not lead far from that, it is the perfect
design to add to any outfit to make you feel that bit cooler.
